Mindful Yoga and Relaxation
I teach in classes and individual tuition

My Approach
Awareness and relaxation are the most important aspects of my classes.
Above anything else that I do, yoga brings me to a deep awareness of myself, it enables me to embody the elusive aspect of awareness.
The effects move beyond the limits of the sessions and the postures – my students tell me that this is true for them too.

Relaxation is the secret ingredient! It is often a much undervalued aspect of yoga, but it is relaxation that can create a shift into a calmer and more peaceful way of being in our daily lives.
Over the years my teaching style has been described as “yoga for sloths”. This is a fairly accurate description, as all movements are practised slowly, with awareness. The focus is on moving into the asana or yoga postures rather than the end result. Don’t be concerned about your level of fitness, this approach makes yoga accessible for everyone.
In this gentle way of working we gain flexibility and strength. These, combined with a rich, deep relaxation practice, create a sense of calm and well-being. This lasts beyond our class together – it is something which can be taken forward into your day.
We allow the body to open in its own time, at its own pace into a spaciousness in which tension effortlessly melts away and allows the body to soften and our awareness to rest in the present moment.

My Background in Yoga
My relationship with yoga began in my teens and, wherever else my life’s explorations take me, yoga is my constant companion.
As my own practice developed, in the early 90s I was asked by a Yoga Scotland tutor to train with them to become a Yoga teacher. This I did with enthusiasm.
So now I have been teaching for over 25 years. My journey has included working with many of the field’s most influential teachers and their various approaches.
My biggest influence is Billy Doyle. Billy practices in the Kashmir tradition, which was taught to him by Jean Klein, someone who has been a very quiet but deep influence on many Yyoga teachers.
I am a registered Yoga Scotland teacher and I continue to take part in regular in-service training (CPD).
